Ditch the Doll House
Ditch the Doll House
Ditch the Doll house is a 3D puzzle platformer made as a collaboration between Sheridan Game Design Students and Uoft Computer Science Students, as part of a Team of 10, I was one of the team's Level Designers
In Ditch the Doll House, you play as a doll on a mission to escape from your child captor! As a doll, you are able to detach and throw your very own limbs to interact with the environment, whether that be pushing buttons or grabbing switches. However the more limbs you lose the more your own capabilities are limited! For example: If you lose one arm, you cant pick up blocks, if you lose 1 leg, you can't double jump. So be wise with how you put your body to use.
With each level, we as a team wanted to make sure that the player was being pushed to use their limbs and unique and creative ways to pass the level, as levels progressed we wanted to challenge our players more and more strategic about tossing their arms or legs depending on the situation ahead of them
I worked on a few levels, so here I will be showcasing Level 6 or 'Block level' which was the level I made independently. In figure 1 to the left, you can see my design process for creating this level. First I mapped out a clean bubble diagram on miro to make it easier for my level design peers to see for some feedback before I went ahead with the greybox. Second, I wrote down the exact steps the player would need to complete to succeed. I would then compare those steps to previous levels to ensure, this level is a step up in difficulty to keep a good difficulty curve for our game.
